  Second baby – Second delivery

Although my first pregnancy was a breeze, I had a really long, tough labour. Now that I am pregnant again, I feel really apprehensive about my ability to cope with that kind of delivery a second time. What are my chances that it will be easier the second time?

This is one of the issues in which the second pregnancy will in all likelihood be easier than the first. Unless you are very unlucky and there are unforeseen problems, or the baby is in an awkward position. Your uterus will remember what to do, and your birth canal has been stretched by the first delivery. In general, the stages of labour tend to each be shorter, and there is usually a large reduction in the amount of pushing needed to get the baby out. So relax and save your energy for the taxing job of mothering two children!
