Tetanus Causes

Information about Tetanus.

The bacteria that causes tetanus exists all around us, especially in soil and dirt. However it requires a wound in order to enter the body. Within eight days of injury, the infected person will experience muscle spasms so severe that limbs can be broken. This is usually most noticeable in the jaw, and is fatal in about 30% of cases. Survivors may have permanent damage, usually to the heart.

After inoculation with the DT or DTacP-Hib, it is normal for infants to be slightly feverish, and off their food. Keep a close eye on the symptoms so that you can discuss them with your doctor. Rare cases of severe reactions have been experienced.
