Missing baby’s milestones

I really am quite happy with the idea of going back to work, but I feel so sad that I may miss the first step, the first word, all those irreplaceable moments. How do I come to terms with that?

This is a hard one! I think you will be sad if you miss a milestone. No way to avoid that. But you will have to remind yourself that your bond with your baby is formed by more than the first moments. You will always have first place in your baby’s heart, and the relationship between you and your baby is the strongest relationship that the child has. You are vital to this baby, and so you need to ensure that the time that you spend together is well spent.

Remember that this does not mean that you have to be the perfect mother every moment you are together. What it does mean is that you should not push your baby away because you are tired. Let baby be part of your life, so let her be with you when you change out of your work clothes, and tell her about your day as you do so. You may feel a bit foolish, but your baby will enjoy it. Include her in your evening activities, in a way that is easy and natural. This will help you keep in touch with who she because she changing so fast and you want to enjoy her as much as possible at every stage.
